Clive Tobin
Group Chief Executive

Clive was appointed Chief Executive of Torus in January 2009 and is responsible for the Group’s activities worldwide. His insurance career spans over 30 years in the world’s largest insurance markets including Bermuda, New York, Zurich and London.


Prior to Torus, Clive was most recently CEO of XL Capital’s global insurance operations. He joined XL Capital in Bermuda in 1995 and in 2001 moved to Zurich to head up XL Insurance Global Risk, the combined global risk management operations of XL and the newly acquired Winterthur International. In 2004 he moved to London to assume the position of Chief Executive.


Clive began his insurance career in 1979 with Marsh & McLennan in Bermuda and New York and in 1986 joined Rockefeller Financial Services in New York to lead their insurance, brokerage and risk management operations.

Naveen Anand
Chief Executive, Torus Americas

Naveen joined Torus in August 2009 as US Chief Executive and Global Chief Operating Officer for Torus worldwide. In this role he oversaw the development of Torus’ global operating platform for Claims, IT, Operations, Marketing and Human Resources, as well as the formation and development of Torus’ US underwriting platforms. He is now responsible for all Torus business and operations in North and South America.

 

Naveen has over 20 years’ insurance industry experience with St Paul, Chubb and latterly CNA, where he was SVP responsible for its $3 billion commercial insurance business across all geographies. Prior to this he focused on US business at CNA, and previously at Chubb, where he demonstrated a consistent track record of growing revenues and improving underwriting performance.

 

He holds a degree in Finance from Rider University and is a graduate of the Advanced Executive Education program of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

Dermot O’Donohoe
Chief Executive, Torus International

Dermot joined Torus in September 2009 to launch Torus’ Global Specialty division and to build out Torus operations and underwriting platforms in Europe. He is now responsible for all international business and operations outside of North and South America.


Dermot has over 25 years’ underwriting experience and is a former member of the Council of Lloyd’s. He joined Torus from XL, where he was most recently Chief Underwriting Officer of XL Insurance’s Global Specialty Operations managing its Aerospace, Environmental, Equine, Marine, Offshore Energy and Program businesses globally. He was also CEO of its London market operations, assuming the role of Active Underwriter of its syndicate. Dermot joined XL Europe Ltd in 1991 as a D&O and Professional Lines underwriter and progressed to President and CEO of XL Europe and Chief Executive of XL Insurance Co. Ltd in December 2002.


Dermot is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and holds an MA from Dublin City University. He is also a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MMII).

José González
General Counsel

José has overall responsibility for Torus’ legal, regulatory and compliance function worldwide

 

He joined Torus in April 2011 from Chartis (formerly AIG), where he was most recently Deputy General Counsel in its US operations. He joined AIG in 1999 as part of the law department’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group, representing the company globally in acquisitions, joint ventures and investments relating to AIG’s insurance and asset management businesses.  During this time he gained extensive experience in East Asia, Europe and Latin America.  Prior to joining AIG he was a corporate associate at the New York and London offices of Weil, Gotshal and Manges, LLP. 

 

He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from the Columbia University School of Law. He also holds a Master’s degree in European Union Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Tim Harris
Group Chief Financial Officer

Tim joined Torus as Group Chief Financial Officer in May 2012. In addition to the Group's finance function Tim has ultimate responsibility for Torus’ Global Delivery Services group, which incorporates Torus’ global Operations, Project Management Office and Information Technology teams.

 

Tim has over 20 years’ experience in financial and capital managements. He was previously Deputy Group Chief Financial Officer and Chief Capital Officer of Aviva plc, where he was responsible for leading the group capital team with specific responsibility for managing capital across Aviva, including treasury, asset & liability management, reinsurance and Solvency II. Before that he was Chief Financial Officer, Aviva Europe and Chief Accounting Officer, Aviva plc.

 

Before joining Aviva, Tim was a Partner in the Global Capital Markets practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a graduate of Durham University and Warwick Business School, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner.

Printhan Sothinathan
Group Chief Strategy Officer

Printhan began his insurance career in 1998 and joined Torus in April 2009 as Head of Underwriting Strategy & Ceded Reinsurance. He was promoted to his current position in February 2010 where he is now responsible for the identification and development of all strategic business and product opportunities across the Torus Group. He also oversees the structuring and purchasing of the Group’s outwards reinsurance program and supports Dermot O’Donohoe as Specialty Product Manager.


During his 12 year career he has worked in various actuarial and reinsurance purchasing roles at Navigators, Zurich and Tillinghast both in Lloyd’s and the London market.
